Privacy Policy & Terms of Use

    Last updated: July 25, 2026

    Privacy Policy

ClassBox is a free, ad-free set of classroom tools. It is built to need as little of your data as possible: there are no accounts, and the tools run entirely inside your browser. This policy describes exactly what does and does not leave your device.

    1. What Stays on Your Device

Everything you type into a tool — student names, class lists, group arrangements, lap times, timer presets, QR code content — is saved only in your own browser's local storage. It is never transmitted to us or to anyone else, and we have no way to read it. Clearing your browser data, or using a tool's own Clear button, deletes it permanently.

There are no user accounts. We never ask for a name, an email address or a password to use the tools.

    2. What We Measure

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits, so we can see which tools are actually useful and which languages to translate into. This measurement is:

    • Cookie-free — no cookies are set and nothing is stored on your device for tracking
    • Aggregate — we see counts such as “120 visits to the timer”, never individual people
    • Limited to the page visited, the approximate country, the referring site, and the browser and device type
    • Never linked to anything you type into a tool

We do not build profiles, we do not use advertising or marketing trackers, and we never sell or share this data. There is nothing to sell — it is only counts.

    3. Hosting

The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (including IP addresses) for security and reliability, as any web host does. See the Vercel privacy policy.

    4. Optional Third-Party Feature

One feature reaches outside your device, and only if you choose it: the QR code tool's “Shorten URL” button sends the address you entered to TinyURL to create a short link. If you do not press that button, nothing is sent. The tool tells you this at the point of use.

    5. Children's Privacy

ClassBox is designed for teachers. Because the tools collect no personal information at all and require no account, no data about children is ever transmitted to us. Student names a teacher types into a tool remain on that teacher's own device.

    6. Your Rights

Data protection rights such as access, correction, deletion and portability apply to personal data held about you. We hold none: there are no accounts and the analytics data is anonymous and aggregate, so it cannot be traced back to any individual. The data created by the tools is already entirely under your control on your own device. If you have any question about this, please get in touch and we will answer it.

    7. Cookies

ClassBox sets no cookies. Your theme preference and your tool data are kept in local storage, which stays on your device and is never sent with requests. This is why you are not shown a cookie banner.

    8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any change is published on this page and the “last updated” date above is changed with it.

    Terms of Use

These terms cover the use of classbox.ca and the tools on it. ClassBox is offered free of charge and run voluntarily, so the terms are deliberately short: they explain what you may do, what belongs to you, and what is not guaranteed.

    1. Acceptance of Terms

By using ClassBox you agree to these terms and to the applicable laws of your own jurisdiction. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.

    2. Licence and Source Code

Using the hosted site costs nothing and needs no licence or permission. It is free for any purpose, in any classroom, school or organisation — public or private, in a lesson or in staff training — with no attribution required and no limit on how often you use it.

The source code is published on GitHub under the GNU General Public License v3.0. That licence, not this page, governs what you may do with the code: you are free to run, study, modify and redistribute it, including commercially, provided derivative works remain under the GPL and keep their source available.

The ClassBox name and logo are not covered by the code licence. Please do not present a modified copy in a way that suggests it is the official ClassBox.

    3. No Accounts

ClassBox has no user accounts, no registration and no passwords. You can use every tool immediately without identifying yourself, and there is nothing for you to safeguard or for us to suspend.

    4. Your Content

The content you enter into a tool — including student names and class lists — is stored only in your own browser and is never uploaded to us. It remains entirely yours. We claim no licence over it, we cannot access it, and we cannot delete or restore it for you.

Because the data never leaves your device, you remain the sole controller of it, including any obligations you have towards your school or your students under local data protection law. You are responsible for the content you enter, and must not use ClassBox to process content that:

    • Violates any law or regulation
    • Infringes the rights of others
    • Is harmful, fraudulent, deceptive, threatening, harassing, defamatory, obscene or otherwise objectionable
    • Contains viruses or other harmful code

    5. Disclaimer

ClassBox is provided on an “as is” basis. No warranty is made, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

In particular, no guarantee is made about the accuracy, reliability or results of using the tools. They may contain errors, and they may be changed at any time without notice.

    6. Limitations

To the extent permitted by law, ClassBox and its maintainer are not liable for any damages — including loss of data, loss of profit or interruption of work — arising from the use of, or inability to use, the site, even if the possibility of such damage had been made known.

    7. Links to Other Sites

ClassBox links to sites it does not control and is not responsible for their content. A link is not an endorsement, and visiting a linked site is at your own risk.

    8. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised at any time. The current version is always the one on this page, and the “last updated” date above changes with it.

    9. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws applicable in the jurisdiction where the developer resides, without regard to conflict of law provisions.

    10. Availability

ClassBox is offered free of charge and run voluntarily, with the domain and hosting paid for personally. It is provided as-is with no guarantee of uptime, and the service or any individual tool may change or be discontinued at any time. Because your data lives on your own device, that data is unaffected by anything that happens to the site — but do export anything you need to keep.

    11. Contact Us

If you have any question about these terms, please get in touch:

    • By email: support@classbox.ca
    • Through the contact page

The tools run entirely in your browser. Student lists and everything you type stay on your device — they are never sent to a server. We count page visits anonymously, with no cookies and no tracking of individuals. Details. Open Source & Ad-Free.
