Random Student Picker

The random student picker chooses a name from your class without you having to think about it, and keeps track of who has already had a turn. It is the quickest way to spread questions evenly instead of always calling on the same few hands. Your list lives in your browser only — no account, no upload.

How to use the random student picker

  1. Enter your class

Paste your class list into the box, one name per line, and press Add Students. You can also add a single name at a time, or import a .txt or .csv file.

  2. Pick someone

Press Select Random Student, or tap Space. The name shuffles for a moment and then settles on the student who has been chosen.

  3. Keep it fair

With Prevent Reselection on, anyone already picked is skipped, so the whole class gets a turn before anybody repeats. When everyone has had a turn, the next press starts a fresh round automatically.

  4. Pick several at once

Turn on Multi-Select and set how many you need — useful for choosing a small team, handing out roles or picking who presents.

  5. Review the lesson

The history strip shows who has been picked, and the counters show total picks and the average per student, so you can see at a glance whether participation was even. Export the history if you want a record.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make sure everyone gets a turn?
Leave Prevent Reselection switched on. Students already chosen are excluded until the whole class has had a turn, and then a new round starts by itself. Names already picked are shown struck through in the list.
Can I pick more than one student at a time?
Yes. Switch on Multi-Select and choose how many students you need. The tool draws that many distinct names in one go and shows them together.
Can I see who has been picked most often?
Yes. Each student carries a counter showing how many times they have been chosen, and the summary shows the total, the average per student, and the highest count.
Do I need to type my class in every lesson?
No. The list is saved in your browser, so it is still there when you come back. It stays on your device and is never uploaded.
